A Foggy Day in Canadian Waters

When I woke up this morning there was land close by just as it had been when we cruised the Chilean Fjords. I took a few pictures and as I stood there the fog was creeping in and as you can see on these photos, it took over and the ship’s horn began to sound automatically every minute or so. We had ordered room service for breakfast and then went to the cooking theater for the salmon preparation classes. The theater is very impressive. We then went to the shoppes where you filled out a form to enter for a $500 piece of jewelry. As usual, they use this as a captive audience to try to tell you all about their specials and how great it is to buy it on the ship which lasted a good 15 minutes and then the drawing finally happened and Kay was the winner of a strand of freshwater pearls. She is now known throughout the ship as the lady that won the pearls. I did the slot tournament after that and came in second to last….bummer. We then went to lunch and everyone at our table knew Kay was the winner of the drawing….she is now the ship celebrity as well as royalty! We came back to the cabin so that I could write the blog and Kay then decided she wanted to go to the wine trivia so she left and I continued to write. She came back and said she would have won on her own but the guy they paired her with insisted his answers were correct when they weren’t so she declared I must go to the next one. We just had a phone call that said they did not get enough people to do the Crab tour at 10 AM tomorrow so they had put us in with the 8 AM group…oh joy, we had just opened a bottle of Jordan to get ready for formal night at leisure and we haven’t been up and ready to do anything at 8 AM since I arrived…hmmmmmmm this should be interesting to see if we make it to the pier on time in the morning. We have both declared while drinking this wine that having crab for breakfast isn’t as appetizing either. It will give us more time to do other things when we get back though. The captain says the weather forcast for Ketchikan is rain so we need to dig out the rain gear tonight too. The fog has lifted in the last hour but it is still cold, windy and very cloudy. I hope to take a lot of good pictures on the crab boat tomorrow for Lindsay, Paige and Chris to see! Time to get ready for dinner so until tomorrow night.
Our dinner mates tonight were different than last night. At the risk of sounding prejudiced, we will say that they were both VERY elderly and both Kay and I thought their children should take their passports away…they repeated the same stories over a minimum a three times during dinner and she asked him at least five times “how long was it that we lived in Alaska dear? Five years? He would answer 3 years and she would tell us again how their kids just loved living there. He also took out his lower front bridge (I’m assuming) during dinner and that left a wire showing across the bottom from of his teeth. He had been an Air Force pilot and they have traveled extensively but we both thought it scary that they were going to navigate this cruise on their own. We went to the show and it was just ok and then headed to the piano bar to listen to Diane Fast who has done the dueling piano things in big cities in the past. She is very good and can play anything and it has become a very popular spot. We came back to the cabin after stopping by the Lido buffet to get some tea and peeing my pants because Kay made me laugh for the second time today and then the horn blew and it was all over…even the guys working in the buffet area were laughing at us and didn’t know why we were laughing so hard. Of course the horn is blowing because it is foggy again. We had to turn the clocks back tonight which is good because they have bumped up our tour tomorrow to 8 AM and we have not been up and ready for anything so far at 8 AM…I think it must be jet lag or the ship rocking. Kay just got up to write down a song for Diane for tomorrow night. I need to get out my iPod because I can’t remember anything at the moment. I will post this and about our tour when we get back to the ship tomorrow. We dock in Ketchikan at 7 AM.

It rained when we were in Ketchikan too. Based on your weather fiorecast, and our experience, I can only assume it rains there every day. Have fun. We are heading to Boulder today for bicycling and it is supposed to go up to 96. I somehow thought Co. was supposed to be cooler than NJ. Tomorrow horseback riding at 11(Not looking forward to that), and crazy Sue is trying to also book us for a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, and you think you have trouble getting ready for an 8 a.m. event Hah!!
